Tickets Now On Sale for d'Arenberg Tasting

We have finally put tickets on sale for our tasting in June of the wines of d'Arenberg, McLaren Vale (South Australia) hosted by 'girl on the ground' for the UK and Europe Claire Scott. This is on the revised date of Thursday 9th June at the Peak Weavers in King Street Leek.

D'Arenberg make big wines, with a big reputation, and are immediately recognisable by their distinctive red stripe across the labels. With quirky names such as The Money Spider, The Laughing Magpie, The Sticks and Stones, and The Galvo Garage, they are certainly memorable before you've even tasted them.

With such an enormous portfolio some of their wines are relatively widely distributed, but as with other large producers with whom we work at The Wine Shop (such as Torres of Spain) there are wines for every occasion and budget, and the more interesting and premium wines are those generally made in volumes too small for the supermarkets and listed by independent wine merchants like us.

For some years we've been lucky enough to receive an allocation of the iconic flagship Dead Arm Shiraz (c£30 a bottle), and the single varietal Roussanne (Money Spider) and Mourvedre (Twenty Eight Road) are personal favourites of those to be found on our shelves.

We're delighted to welcome Claire to Leek to take us through these (yes, even Dead Arm) plus a number of their other wines, to include just a couple of rich, aromatic whites, several gutsy reds and even some succulent sweeties (which after all is where the Australian market began).

Tickets for this event cost £20 each (to include 10 wines plus cheese) in advance only and the event will start at 7.30pm.

Give us a call on 01538 382408 or email us at info@wineandwhisky.com or simply call into the shop in Russell Street to book your places for what promises to be a popular event.

The Blending Room

Fourth generation Chester D'Arenberg Osborn worked in the vineyards and cellar from a very early age and after graduating from Roseworth College and touring other Australian and European wine regions took over the reins of Chief Winemaker in 1984.

He works with individual parcels of fruit that are each picked and vinified separately so that their different characters can contribute complexity to the final blend.

Chester's father D'Arry was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in June 2004 in the Queen's Birthday Honours for his contribution to the wine industry and the McLaren Vale region...to the tune of 65 consecutive vintages!
