Saint Clair Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
The star of the selection - they don't come much more powerful or intense than this! Classic blackcurrant, passionfruit and gooseberry characters from one of the very first growers in Marlborough back in 1978. Still family-owned they've enjoyed incredible success in international competitions. Very impressive!
Niel Joubert Chenin Blanc
100% unoaked this South African's weighty palate owes much to its staggering alcohol and yet it's balanced and lively with guava and citrus aromas followed by a ripe tropical palate with pineapple flavours and some lemon.
Oveja Negra Sauvignon Blanc Carmenere
No, not a misprint...this Chilean white really is made with some red Carmenere grapes (15%). Picked early and pressed with no skin contact it gives subtle herbaceous leafy mineral tones. Unique and a success!
Michel Torino Coleccion Torrontes
This perfumed Argentinian grape variety is finally winning fans and this has captivating aromas of wild roses and jasmine followed by a full exotic palate with orange and spices making it perfect with Thai dishes.
Benchmark Chardonnay
Our favourite unoaked Aussie white that's made predominantly with Barossa Valley fruit with some ageing on the lees for nice mouthfeel whilst remaining crisp and fresh.
Le Coste Trebbiano
This floral and blossom scented Italian white has got so much more about it than the ubiquitous Pinot Grigio. Fresh and crisp with nice aromatics it's the perfect glass to unwind with at the end of the day. Uncomplicated but hits the spot.
Niel Joubert Cinsault Pinotage
A red wine from family-owned Paarl producer I'm guilty of dismissing initially...this is full-bodied and lively with softy spicy blackberries from the Cinsault to balance the deep smoky Pinotage flavours. An unusual partnership that works!
Oveja Negra Cabernet Franc Carmenere
Oveja Negra means 'black sheep' and as with the white (also in this selection) these wines are designed to showcase an ethos of innovation. Another unusual blend that works brilliantly with ripe, seductive aromas and a luscious velvety palate. Toasty oak and a spicy finish.
Carmen Pinot Noir
This Chilean red has had 10 months in French oak plus a further 2 in bottle to produce a delicate and yet savoury example of Pinot with spicy black cherry on the nose and a juicy palate that suits fish or chicken with creamy or spicy sauces.
Echeverria Reserva Merlot
This is a serious Chilean red that will age up to 6 years from vintage thanks to 12 months in a combination of French and American oak. Plums, bitter chocolate and leather aromas are followed by a smooth rounded palate with plenty of berry fruits and a silky finish.
Michel Torino Coleccion Malbec
Listed since we bought the shop nearly 8 years ago this is a soft and yet well structured example with lovely fragrant plums cherry and cassis on the nose which follow through onto the palate. Remarkably easy to drink!
Benchmark Shiraz
A wine that frequently features in our selections for its rich spicy aromas and incredibly smooth juicy palate. Infinitely drinkable and delicious Aussie red.
Wines retail at £6.49 - £12.99.
